Grounding Techniques & Resources

What is Grounding?

Grounding is a practice that helps you anchor into the present moment and reconnect with your body and surroundings. It can support a sense of stability and awareness, especially during times of overwhelm, emotional intensity, or disconnection.

Grounding is often associated with connecting to Mother Earth and recognising a sense of belonging within the present moment.

Self Realisation (Sahaja Yoga)

The chakra system and Self Realisation described here are drawn from Sahaja Yoga teachings, a meditation practice founded by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi.

Within Sahaja Yoga teachings, Self Realisation is understood as an awakening of inner awareness and connection to one’s spirit within. It is described as a natural state of awareness that can arise through meditation and inner connection.

Grounding practices

Barefoot in nature

If accessible, walking barefoot in natural environments such as grass, sand, or near water can support a sense of calm presence.

Sitting with the Earth

Place your attention toward the ground beneath you. You may gently offer stress, tension, or emotional heaviness to the Earth, allowing yourself to feel lighter and more settled. This can be done sitting on the floor or on a chair, or standing with both hands placed on or toward the Earth.

Within Sahaja Yoga teachings, the Mooladhara chakra is associated with stability, grounding, and connection to the Earth element.

There are 4 petals to the Mooladhara which, once opened, help us feel more stable, grounded, balanced, and connected to self and to all of creation. An image may be shared in future to support deeper connection and reflection.
